The highest decision-making body of the Cunningham Institute of Higher Education — autonomous, and separate from institutional management.
The Governing Council is the highest decision-making body of the Institute. Council is autonomous: its decisions are not subject to ratification by the proprietors, whose interest is exercised solely through their two seats on Council. The President and other members of Institutional Management attend Council meetings in attendance only and are not members of Council.
Council draws its membership from the constituencies set out below.

A quorum is a simple majority of members in office, to include at least one independent member and at least one member who is not a proprietor. Council meets not less than three times each academic year, and additionally as convened by the Chairperson.
Institutional Management is a distinct, subordinate body reporting to Council through the President.
View Institutional Management →The Academic Board is the academic authority of the Institute and reports to Council. It is chaired by the President and comprises the Academic Dean, the Registrar, the Finance Officer, the Librarian, the Head of Quality Assurance, the Head of each Faculty, and two elected members of the teaching staff. It is responsible for curriculum design and approval, admissions standards, examinations and assessment, external examiners, academic quality assurance, and oversight of academic collaboration with partner institutions.
Budget preparation, fee proposals, financial controls, quarterly reporting to Council.
Site development, building permits, facilities standards, the Institute's expansion plan.
Recruitment, appointment criteria, promotion and staff discipline.
Internal and external audit, the risk register, regulatory compliance and quality-assurance reporting.
